The Australian Journal of Emergency Management, Volume 30 Issue 1, 2015 reported the role of older people as a key to success in rebuilding Haiyan-affected communities. The story is based on the report entitled Typhoon Haiyan one year on: older people key to recovery published by HelpAge International and the Coalition of Services of the Elderly (COSE) in October last year.

This article summaries the intervention of HelpAge-COSE  to include the older people in the recovery programmes. It also indicates that older people play a big role in helping 150,000 people and their communities recover from Typhoon Haiyan. With small support, the older people are able to help one another and improve their own resilience in the aftermath of the typhoon.
