Date: 13-14 November 2019
Location: Beijing, China

Population ageing presents significant economic and social challenges. The problem of shrinking labour force is commonly faced by China, Japan, ROK and other East and North-East Asian countries. The demand for social services, such as health services and social protection, will also increase as society ages. In this regard, the utilisation of technology and innovation could help improve the convenience and accuracy of ageing services and satisfy the diversified demands by older persons, while at the same time reduce costs. In addition, technologies can prolong economically active age of older persons, providing income-earning opportunities for them while complementing the shrinking labour force.

China National Committee on Ageing (CNCA), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Renmin University of China (RUC) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) will jointly organise a meeting to facilitate experiences and practices sharing on smart ageing for East and North-East Asian countries for policymakers, academia and civil society organisations, and to discuss and make relevant recommendations. The meeting will also help identify specific areas for further research and regional collaboration.
