HelpAge Asia Pacific Regional Office will organise the “Regional Learning Event on Strengthening Older Peoples’ Associations” on 23-24 November 2019 in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Purpose of the regional learning event

To promote the development of OPAs in the region through learning and sharing experience of network organisations in developing and strengthening OPAs building on the ISHC model as well as dissemination and advocating for expansion in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam. The event will also be an opportunity to share findings from the regional research that aim to provide comprehensive analysis with the critical success factors on the operation of IHSC model in Vietnam and the strengths and weaknesses on the operation of OPAs in the other three countries.

Participants

Participants will be representatives from the network organisations who are implementing the ISHC model, but adapting to their local context as well as key stakeholders including OPA leaders and government representatives from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Organisations from other countries that are implementing different types of OPA model and show interest in sharing and learning and enhancing their understanding on OPA in order to improve the model will also be invited. Approximately 30 participants are expected.

 

Key content and structure

A two-day event will comprise three main components;

  1. Sharing experience in replicating the ISHC model and promoting expansion in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam,
  2. Sharing key findings from the regional research on OPAs and HelpAge OPA project evaluation, and
  3. Direct exposure to the ISHC model in Vietnam through a field visit.
