HelpAge regional office

Since 1988, HelpAge East Asia/Pacific Regional Office has been working with network members in East Asia/Pacific to implement projects, conduct research, develop capacity and raise awareness on ageing issues. HelpAge network works together on wide range of topics; from livelihoods to age care; from rights promotion to community-based organisations. We also respond to
emergencies and promote resilience through disaster risk reduction (DRR).

We provide governments, academic institutions, NGOs and older people information, technical training and support.

Key activities

HelpAge network Asia/Pacific Regional Conference:  Every two years, the HelpAge Network hosts an Asia-Pacific regional conference on ageing with a view of developing consensus and promoting collaboration on key themes of importance to improving the wellbeing of older people.

Regional workshop: “Community-based social care: What is the role of the State?”

 

Designing and Implementing Social Transfer Course: Annually held in Chiang Mai, this short course provides policymakers, government officials and practitioners with an in-depth understanding of the conceptual and practical issues involved in the development of social transfer programmes. The course is offered by the Economic Policy Research Institute and HelpAge International in partnership with UNU-Maastrict and the Institute of Development Studies.

Community-Driven Development (CDD) Training: This is a one-week training for development practitioners and others interested in community development. The course follows a participatory approach; utilising analysis of case studies and practice exercises, group focused learning and a reflective atmosphere. In addition, a full-day field exposure visit demonstrates
practical applications and sustainability of the CDD model. Read more
