Senior citizens taught business skills to beat rural poverty

Myanmar is partnering with HelpAge, an International NGO, to provide training and money for elderly people to invest in new business models. The scheme aims to provide a secure income to make up for low levels of state support and is part of authorities’ response to an ageing population. The project also builds villagers’ self-confidence and fosters community activism.
