Regional Expert Forum on Population Ageing

The Regional Expert Forum on Population Ageing will be held on 12-13 July 2016 in the United Nations Conference Center, Bangkok. It is expected to be attended by Government focal points on population ageing, policy-makers, development practitioners, independent experts, and civil society experts working in the area of population ageing.
The objectives of the Forum are as follows:
(1) To review and share good practices in addressing the long-term care needs of older persons in the region and consider policies to formulate a comprehensive framework for long-term care of older persons in the region;
(2) To increase awareness on the key challenges and opportunities for effectively addressing population ageing and promoting the rights of older persons in the Asia- Pacific region in the context of the forthcoming Third Regional Review of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing;
(3) To agree on a strategy to assess progress at regional and country level on the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA), including proposing concrete follow-up actions within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
