Older people’s associations (OPAs) offer an approach for inclusive, sustainable community development that actively engages the growing population of older people. In order to assess how effectively OPAs are meeting the needs of older people, HelpAge commissioned action-based research that included an assessment of the OPA model in four countries in Asia: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. The aim of the research was to identify factors that promote and sustain OPAs in the four countries. This briefing outlines the findings of the final report, highlighting the strengths of OPAs in the study countries and the key factors for their sustainability and replication.
